Nicholas Galitzine Star as He-Man in ‘Masters of the Universe’
‘Idea of You’ actor Nicholas Galitzine is cast as the iconic action hero He-Man in the live-action film ‘Masters of the Universe.’ It is based on the comic franchise of the same name created by Mattel.
Galitzine expressed his excitement to join the project as He-Man. He shared his happiness on Instagram: “By the Power of Greyskull, I HAVE THE POWER!”
He further added, “It has been a dream for so long to play someone of his heart, humour and heroism, I cannot wait to get started.”
Travis Knight, who directed Kubo and the Two Strings and Bumbleebe, will direct the film. The screenplay is written by Chris Butler, and it is produced by Mattel Films’ Robbie Brenner and Escape Artists’ Todd Black, Steve Tisch, and Jason Blumenthal. Amazon MGM Studios, and Mattel Films will collaborate on the film. Currently, there are no additional cast members attached to the film, and it is unclear when production work will start. However, it is expected to be released worldwide on June 5, 2026.
Julia Rapaport, Amazon MGM Studios’ film production and development head, showed her excitement, stating, “We’re thrilled to bring the beloved Masters of the Universe to life,” and she was also thrilled about the casting of Galitzman as the main protagonist.
She continued, “This reintroduction of the character and his universe will be an epic film that will delight audiences from here to Eternia.”
The plot of the upcoming film has not been disclosed yet. However, according to the previous synopsis from the studio, it follows the story of Prince Adam, aka He-Man, whose spaceship crashed on Earth when he was a child. Years later, he returns to his home planet to protect it from Skelton’s evil forces. But to become He-Man, he must first discover his power by uncovering the mysteries of his past.
In 1982, Mattel first introduced the Master of the Universe franchise as an action figure. The following year, they released the animated series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. Since then, the franchise has expanded its projects, including the spin-off series She-Ra: Princess of Power and the 1987 film Masters of the Universe.
Earlier, Netflix decided to develop the film, but the streaming platform dropped the project in July 2023 due to budget concerns, reportedly spending $30 million on development. At that time, Kyle Allen was cast to play the role of He-Man.
Galitzine’s recent films include Red, White & Royal Blue, The Idea of You, and Bottoms. He also appeared in the series Mary & George.
