Nicole Kidman Teases Her and Sandra Bullock’s Return in ‘Practical Magic 2’

Nicole Kidman opened up about her and Sandra Bullock’s potential return in Practical Magic 2. On Thursday, in an interview with People, she shared the news on the red carpet during the premiere of her upcoming film, A Family Affair.

She said, “Yes, I will be in it. And Sandy will be in it. And that’s that,” and continued, “There’s a lot more to tell which is why we go, ‘OK, this is kind of interesting now to be able to do this.'”

Kidman and Bullock are reuniting for the upcoming movie after 25 years. They will once again play the characters of the Owens sisters. The development regarding the sequel was announced earlier this week. First, they teased the return through the official TikTok account of Warner Bros., by sharing a video that pointed that they were dropping something at midnight, that was a nod to “Midnight margaritas” scene from the film.

After that, they made the sequel announcement on the following day through the studio’s TikTok account; they captioned it, “It’s official … Practical Magic 2 is coming!”

Akiva Goldsman, who co-wrote the script for the original movie, will return as a screenwriter for the sequel. Nicole and Kidman will produce the film along with Denise Di Novi, the original’s producer.

The plot details of the upcoming movie are currently unknown. However, the first film was based on Alice Hoffman’s 1995 novel of the same name. The author wrote three other novels in the series, including prequels The Rules of Magic (2017) and Magic Lessons (2020), and a sequel, The Book of Magic (2021). As a result, there are plenty of potential plots for the project to pull down.

The comedy film Practical Magic was released in 1998 and was directed by Griffin Dunne. Bullock and Kidman played the lead roles as sisters, Sally and Gillian Owens. The film follows the Owens sisters, who were orphans when they lost their parents due to a family curse. They were raised by their aunts, and as they grew up, they were taught about the uses of practical magic. They tried to break a family curse that any man who was romantically involved with Owens women died as a consequence by conducting a ritual.

In 2019, HBO Max decided to make a reboot of Practical Magic based on the prequel series, but that project never happened.

Bullock was last seen in Brad Pitt’s 2022 movie Bullet Train, while Kidman’s upcoming film is A Family Affairs, which is scheduled to release on Netflix on June 28, 2024.
