I’m pleased to share that PeteDavidson has resurfaced for the first time in months after seeking mental health treatment in July. The “Saturday Night Live” alum posed for a photo with his pal MGK on Thursday night as they enjoyed a preview of The Room at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, the new home arena of the LA Clippers.
Davidson, 30, rocked a red FDNY T-shirt at the event. The tee, which had the FDNY logo and the words “Fire Dept. of New York,” was likely a tribute to his late father. The comedian’s dad, Scott Matthew Davidson, served NYC as a firefighter and lost his life in the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Pete was 7 years old at the time.
The “King of Staten Island” star smiled alongside MGK, formerly known as Machine Gun Kelly, showing that he was in high spirits for the outing.
Pete’s Rare Public Appearance
Pete’s rare public appearance comes more than two months after the “Bodies Bodies Bodies” star checked himself into a wellness facility to work on his mental health. In August, his rep confirmed to Page Six that he was still receiving treatment despite a report to the contrary.
Davidson had also previously spent time in rehab in June 2023 to help manage his PTSD and borderline personality disorder. “Pete regularly goes to rehab for ‘tune-ups’ and to take a mental break, so that’s what’s happening,” an insider revealed. Anyone who knows Pete knows that he will always step up and get help when he knows he needs it.”
The actor has been open about his mental health struggles for years. He revealed in 2020 that he has experienced extreme suicidal thoughts and gotten “close” to acting on them.
Paying Tribute To His Late Father
The FDNY shirt Davidson wore was a sentimental nod to his late father. Scott Matthew Davidson, a New York City firefighter, lost his life in the 9/11 attacks when Pete was just 7 years old.
Over the years, Davidson has been vocal about the impact of his father’s tragic death. To mark the 15th anniversary in 2016, he shared a throwback photo of the two of them, writing, “I can’t believe tomorrow is going to be 15 years. Missing the legend!!! Thank you all for your kind words and support as always. #werememberthem.”
The following day, Davidson posted another tribute, this time reminiscing about when one of his dad’s coworkers gifted him some of his father’s old belongings. “One of my dad’s buddies gifted me his old dirty boots from work and a sick photo of him looking like a young legend!” He wrote, “Apparently, my dad wore sketchers, which is incredibly embarrassing.”
Reflecting On His Loss In ‘The King Of Staten Island
Davidson’s experiences dealing with the loss of his father also inspired his 2020 semi-autobiographical film, “The King of Staten Island.” In the Judd Apatow-directed comedy, Davidson stars as 20-something Scott Carlin, a young man who spends most of his time smoking and drinking while coping with the death of his father after 9/11 before pursuing a career in comedy.
“The movie is like my love letter to my mom, and I’m trying to end that part of my life,” Davidson said at the time. “I feel like we finally got to a place where we could let go a little bit.”
As Davidson continues to prioritize his mental health and heal from the trauma of his father’s passing, it’s heartening to see him emerge from treatment and pay tribute to his dad’s legacy. Though the road has been difficult, Davidson’s resilience and openness about his struggles serve as an inspiration to many.
