Pixar’s Pete Docter Shares Update About  Disney+ ‘Inside Out’ Spinoff Series

Pete Docter, Pixar Animation Studio’s Chief Creative Officer, shares an interesting update about the Inside Out spinoff series on Disney+. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, he discussed the series’ production status.

He said, “We have finished. It’s coming out next spring. I’m not sure that there’s been a specific release date,” and continued, “In the first film, remember we go to Dream Production to see how Riley’s dreams are made? It semi-explains why they’re so weird.”

He added, “We’ve continued the exploration of the power of dreams and how they affect us in our waking life, as well. So it’s pretty cool.”

The announcement regarding the spinoff series came out last month. According to Bloomberg, Pixar President Jim Morris broke the news. He revealed that production of the series was already underway and would be available to stream on Disney+ in 2025.

Bloomberg shared that the spinoff series, ‘Dream Productions,’ and its story will be set “in the Inside Out universe of Riley’s dreams.”

Morris also hinted at the possibility of sequels to Finding Nemo and The Incredibles. However, the decision would depend upon the performance of their initial TV series.

He said, “If we do more stuff for Disney+, it should be a series, and then that makes a clean demarcation between what we do for theaters and what we do for streaming.”

Mike Jones, who co-wrote the animated dramedy Soul and Pixar’s animated fantasy film Luca, is writing the spinoff series.

The first Inside Out movie was released in 2015 and produced by Pixar Animation Studios and Walt Disney Pictures. It was written and produced by Peter Docter, and the co-writers include Meg LeFauve and Josh Cooley. Docter got the thread of the film’s story in after observing his daughter’s behavioral changes as she grew older.

The film took five and a half years to develop and had a budget of approximately $175 million. It collected $858.8 million at the box office and became the seventh-highest-grossing film in 2015.

After the movie’s massive success, Pixar confirmed the Inside Out sequel in September 2022 during the D23 Expo announcement. Kelsey Mann directed the sequel, which was written by Meg LeFauve and Dave Holstein. The movie hit the theatres on June 14. It broke several records, including becoming the second-biggest domestic opening with $154.2 million and the largest opening for an animated movie worldwide with $295 million.
