Robert Pattinson Will Remake 80s Cult Horror Classic Movie ‘Possession’

Twilight star Robert Pattinson is back with a new project. The actor is preparing to produce a remake of the 1981 horror film ‘Possession.’ According to The Hollywood Reporter, Pattinson landed as a producer via his production company, Icki Eneo Arlo, and it was not confirmed if he would take a role in the film.

Parker Finn, who is the creator of the horror movie Smile, will write the script and direct the film. He also produced the film under his Bad Feeling Banner, along with Roy Lee. The script is in early development and is now bidding with companies including Netflix, A24, Warner Bros., Sony, and Paramount.

Possession is a psychological horror film that was directed by the famous Polish director Andrzej Żuławski, and the script was written by Żuławski and Frederic Tuten.

The film follows Mark (Sam Neill), a spy who returns from West Berlin to his family and learns that his wife, Anna (Isabelle Adjani), needs a divorce. Mark hired a private investigator to spy on her. After a series of violent confrontations, it was revealed that she was hiding a bizarre tentacled creature with whom she had a relationship.

Zulawski wrote the script as a medication for marriage. He was facing a divorce with his wife at the time. It was made as an international co-production between France and Germany. Despite not becoming a commercial or critical success upon its release, the film eventually achieved cult status.

Adjani won the Best Actress award at the 34th Cannes Film Festival for her performance, and the film was nominated for the Palme d’Or. Żuławski won the Film Critics Prize at the São Paulo International Film Festival in 1981.

Pattinson began his acting career in the film Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire as the character Cedric Diggory. He gained popularity by playing Edward Cullen in The Twilight Saga (2008–2012). After that, he played important roles in the films Cosmopolis, The Lost City of Z, Good Times, High Life, and The Lighthouse.

He played a leading role in Christopher Nolan’s movie Tenet (2020), and his last big screen appearance was in Matt Reeves’ superhero film The Batman (2022) as Bruce Wayne/Batman. He also voiced the titular character in the animated movie The Boy and the Heron.

His upcoming project is Bong Joon-ho’s science-fiction movie Mickey 17, which is scheduled to release on January 31, 2025. He will also reprise his role in The Batman 2, which has a release window on October 2, 2026.
