The 2002 movie Scooby-Doo was the first live-action adaptation of the animated series of the same name. It has been more than two decades since the movie came out, but it is still one of the favorites among viewers.

Raja Gosnell directed the film, and James Gunn, a renowned filmmaker, wrote the screenplay. It was based on the 1969 cartoon series by Warner Bros. Entertainment.

With a budget of $84 million, the movie became a huge success at the box office worldwide, collecting $275.7 million. Following its success, the movie released a sequel, Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, in 2004.

The cast of the movie includes Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, Matthew Lillard, Linda Cardellini, Neil Fanning (voiced Scooby-Doo), and more.

Freddie Prinze Jr. as Fred Jones

Freddie Prinze Jr. played the character of Fred Jones, the Mystery Inc. gang’s leader. He was also involved in the sequel, Monsters Unleashed. After the movie, he appeared in the series Friends, Freddie, Boston Legal, and 24. He also voiced the fictional character, Kanan Jarrus, in Star Wars Rebels.

He appeared in Peacock’s reboot of Punky Brewster. In 2023, he launched a podcast with Jon Lee Brody called That Was Pretty Scary.

He married his co-star, Sarah Michelle Gellar, in 2002, and they have two children.

Sarah Michelle Gellar as Daphne Blake

Sarah Michelle Gellar portrayed the role of fashionable Daphne Blake. She got worldwide recognition for playing the titular character in the series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which ran for seven seasons. Her films include Scream 2, Cruel Intentions, The Grudge, and Do Revenge. She recently appeared on Paramount+’s series Wolf Pack as the main lead.

Matthew Lillard as Shaggy Rogers

In the movie, Matthew Lillard’s Shaggy was Scooby’s best friend. He acted in several films, which include The Descendants, Match, Trouble with the Curve, and Twin Peaks: The Return. He recently appeared in the film Five Nights at Freddy’s. His upcoming movie is The Life of Chuck, directed by Mike Flanagan.

Linda Cardellini as Velma Dinkley

Linda Cardellini’s character Velma is the brains behind Mystery Inc. Throughout her career, she has acted in several series, including Freaks and Geeks, ER, Bloodline, and Dead to Me.

Her notable films are The Founder, A Simple Favor, The Curse of La Llorona, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and its sequel. She also voiced and motion-captured Lylla’s character in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Her upcoming films include Nonnas and Nutcrackers.

Rowan Atkinson as Mondavarious

Rowan Atkinson gained immense popularity by playing the character Mr. Bean. However, he portrayed the role of antagonist in the Scooby-Doo movie. Atkinson has appeared in various movies, including Never Say Never Again, Love Actually, and Wonka.
