Sydney Sweeney Will Play as Boxer Christy Martin in New Biopic
Sydney Sweeney is ready to play the new challenging role of boxing legend Christy Martin, whose nickname was ‘The Female Rocky,’ in the upcoming biopic movie.
When Sweeney appeared at the Met Gala 2024 with black hair, everyone was doubtful if she was in preparation for a new role. But at that time, she didn’t reply to the reporter’s question regarding it. However, now everyone knows the reason for her new look.
In a conversation with Deadline, Sweeney said that she would train and transform her body for the character as she did kickboxing when she was 12-19 years old. She also added that Christy’s story is not simple and that physical and emotional contributions are needed. There were many things to cover, but she loved challenging herself.
Sweeney continued that Chirsty Martiin overcame the gender stereotypes and fought back against the challenges of physical, emotional, and financial abuse. Sweeney felt that Christy’s story, the struggles she faced behind the fame, made the decision to portray the character. She said, “I feel compelled to tell a story about a woman who faced so much adversity and didn’t allow it to defeat her.”
The film will be directed by David Michôd, who is famous for directing the crime drama Animal Kingdom and The Rover. Michôd told Deadline that he had a history of making movies about damaged men and wanted to make a film about a woman who kept a strong energy inside her. He also added that he came across the story of Christy Martin two years ago.
The movie’s production will start in the fall in the United States. The project will introduced to international buyers at the Cannes Film Market. The other cast members are not announced yet.
Swidney Sweeney gained population by starring in the series Everything Suck! and The Handmaid’s Tale. She got wider recognition for her role in Euphoria. She recently appeared in the films Madame Web and Immaculate. Her upcoming projects are Echo Valley and Eden.
