In a touching display of celebrity camaraderie, global superstar Taylor Swift was seen comforting Brittany Mahomes, the wife of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, after he suffered a concerning injury during Monday night’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
A video circulating on X (formerly Twitter) showed the 14-time Grammy winner standing up from her VIP suite and wrapping a supportive arm around the expectant mother as Patrick went down on the field in pain. Swift, who was attending the game to support her boyfriend Travis Kelce, the Chiefs’ star tight end, looked visibly shocked as Brittany began chewing on her fingernails and clenching her jaw in distress.
Just moments before the injury, the two WAGs (wives and girlfriends of athletes) had been joyously celebrating after Patrick made a touchdown pass to teammate Samaje Perine. TikTok posted footage of the besties tightly embracing and cheering in excitement.
However, when Brittany, 29, realized her husband had suffered, the mood quickly changed. “Patrick’s hurt,” she could be seen telling the concerned Swift, 34, who immediately sprung into action to provide comfort and reassurance.
The reigning Super Bowl MVP stayed down on the field for several minutes as medical staff attended to his left ankle. ESPN posted a clip of Patrick face down on the grass, holding his ankle, until medical staff helped him off the field.
Fortunately, the injury was not as severe as it initially appeared. Patrick was able to return to the game after being evaluated and said he simply “rolled the ankle”—an issue he had also dealt with the previous week. “I rolled the ankle; I rolled it last week, and when you roll it again, it never feels good,” he told ESPN reporters after the game. “But as I got some time, it started feeling better.”
The Chiefs went on to defeat the Buccaneers 30-24 in overtime, maintaining their undefeated 8-0 record for the season. Patrick’s toughness and determination to stay in the game despite the pain impressed both his teammates and the passionate Arrowhead Stadium crowd.
As for Swift, the pop superstar made the most of her appearance at the game, showcasing her Chiefs pride by rocking a vintage leather varsity jacket. The jacket was likely a gift from her boyfriend Kelce, 35, who surprised the “Cruel Summer” singer with a last-minute appearance at her concert in Indianapolis over the weekend.
“Travis had practice earlier that day, and he wasn’t even sure if he was going to be able to make it,” an insider told Page Six. “It was a last-minute decision. Thankfully, he was able to get out of practice on time and show up.”
Swift’s mother, Andrea, and brother, Austin, were also in attendance at the packed concert, where the hitmaker is currently wrapping up her record-breaking Eras Tour. The tour will conclude in Vancouver on December 8th.
While the injury scare may have been “definitely scary” for Patrick, as he described it, the resilient quarterback’s ability to shake it off and lead his team to victory was a testament to his toughness and the unbreakable spirit of the Chiefs’ organization.
With Patrick expected to be ready to face the Denver Broncos this Sunday, Chiefs fans can breathe a collective sigh of relief knowing their superstar signal-caller is poised to continue his dominance and push the team towards another Super Bowl run.
