The Masked Singer Unmasks Bluebell as ’90s Icon Natalie Imbruglia

The Masked Singer fans were in for a big surprise during Wednesday night’s ’60s-themed episode. As the Group B finalists took the stage, Bluebell, one of the remaining masked singers, dramatically unmasked, revealing a Grammy-nominated ’90s music icon.

The episode kicked off with an energetic group performance of the Beach Boys’ hit “Fun, Fun, Fun” by the three finalists: Wasp, Bluebell, and Goo. But it was Bluebell’s solo performance of “Do You Love Me” by The Contours that ultimately led to her undoing.

Between the performances, the “Men in Black” provided some ’60s-inspired clues, including an Easy-Bake Oven filled with a Vegemite sandwich—a clear nod to Bluebell’s Australian roots. The judges immediately picked up on this, with guesses ranging from Naomi Watts to Kylie Minogue.

However, when it came time for the big reveal, none of the judges had correctly identified Bluebell as Natalie Imbruglia, the renowned singer-songwriter behind the smash hit “Torn.”

“You did a fantastic job disguising her voice,” judge Robin Thicke admitted, “but you played the game so well. You fooled us.” Imbruglia, a three-time Grammy nominee, opened up about her time on the show, sharing that she loved the opportunity to do “the dance choreography and everything”—things  she doesn’t typically get to do as a recording artist.

“I’m struggling to get my accent back because I’ve been in an American accent the whole time,” the 49-year-old singer revealed, nodding to her efforts to confuse the judges.

Imbruglia first rose to fame in the ’90s with her cover of “Torn,” which topped charts around the world and sold over 4 million copies globally. The track didn’t technically chart on the Billboard Hot 100 due to a lack of physical single release, but it did reach #12 on the Modern Rock Tracks chart.

Since her breakout success with “Torn,” Imbruglia has released six studio albums, the most recent being 2021’s Firebird. But her appearance on The Masked Singer has undoubtedly introduced her to a whole new generation of fans.

Bluebell’s unmasking also marked a significant moment in the season, as it was the final elimination before the coveted quarterfinals. With Wasp and Goo advancing, the competition is heating up as the remaining contestants vie for a spot in the finals.

The Masked Singer has always been full of surprises, but this latest reveal is sure to leave viewers feeling “torn”—both  shocked and delighted by Natalie Imbruglia’s unmasking. As the season pushes forward, fans can expect more celebrity surprises and standout performances. Who will be the next masked singer to captivate audiences and sway the judges? Tune in to find out!
