In a move that’s sure to send shockwaves through Hollywood, Christopher Nolan has assembled a power-packed cast for his next big-screen event. Leading the charge are two of the biggest stars on the planet—Tom Holland and Zendaya—in their first on-screen pairing outside the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Deadline reports that the real-life couple, affectionately dubbed “Tomdaya” by fans, will headline Nolan’s mysterious new film, set for a July 17, 2026 IMAX release. Joining the superstar duo are two of the director’s frequent collaborators: Anne Hathaway, who appeared in both “The Dark Knight Rises” and “Interstellar,” and Matt Damon, who worked with Nolan on “Interstellar” and the recent hit “Oppenheimer.”
Although sources tell Deadline that the story will not take place in the present day, details about the film’s plot remain closely guarded. This aligns with Nolan’s penchant for tackling ambitious, time-bending narratives that challenge audiences and leave them pondering long after the credits roll.
“All I can say is that I’m incredibly excited,” Holland shared, “and obviously honored, but that’s all I can say because, to be honest, that’s all I know.” The actor likened the experience to getting the call about his star-making turn as Spider-Man a decade ago.
For Hathaway, the opportunity to reteam with Nolan is particularly meaningful. “A lot of people wouldn’t give me roles because they were so concerned about how toxic my identity had become online,” the Oscar winner revealed in a recent Vanity Fair interview. I had an angel in Christopher Nolan, who didn’t care and gave me one of my most beautiful roles in Interstellar, one of my best films.”
Hathaway’s recent credits include the romantic comedy “The Idea of You” and the period thriller “Mothers’ Instinct.” She’s also set to appear in the pop-star drama “Mother Mary” and the sci-fi thriller “Flowervale Street.” Zendaya, meanwhile, is fresh off the success of “Dune: Part Two” and the tennis drama “Challengers” and is currently filming “The Drama” with Robert Pattinson.
With this cast in place, Nolan’s next film is poised to be one of the most anticipated cinematic events of 2026. The director is coming off the critical and commercial triumph of “Oppenheimer,” which grossed a staggering $976 million worldwide and went on to win the Academy Award for Best Picture.
When asked about the pressure to replicate that level of success, Nolan brushed off any concerns. “I think you can’t worry too much about the relationship of one film to the next,” he said. “I get bored very quickly; I like to keep working. It’s exciting to think about what’s next.”
Nolan is known for his unwavering commitment to the big-screen experience, and with this star-studded ensemble in place, his latest opus is sure to be a must-see theatrical event. Fans will have to wait until July 2026 to witness the results, but based on the director’s track record and the electrifying chemistry between Holland and Zendaya, it’s a safe bet that this film will leave an indelible mark on the industry.
