Olympic Breakdancer Raygun Relives Kangaroo Hop In Surprise Appearance After Announcing Retirement

Scene-stealing Australian Olympic breakdancer Raygun has made a cameo appearance on stage at a music concert, following her announcement earlier this week of her retirement from competition.

Ray-gun—real name Rachael Gunn—confused critics and won hearts with her singular breakdancing style at the Paris Olympics this summer. She said earlier this week she was retiring after the scrutiny on her became too intense following the Games.

The News.com.au website reports that Saturday evening she made an impromptu appearance on stage at Tone and I‘s show at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena, enchanting the crowd with her moves to the artist’s hit “Dance with Me.”

Her performance featured her Olympic moves, such as swinging her arms like a windmill and the kangaroo hop, which garnered her global attention during the Games. “Raygun is the most beautiful, kindest, full-of-life human I have met. It was an honor to celebrate you last night,” Watson wrote in the caption of the video.

“Thank you for sharing the stage with me and bringing smiles to so many faces. I will always be a friend to you. Tones,” she added. In another video shared to Gunn’s Instagram Story, she appears to teach Watson’s dancers some of her viral moves, including one that Olympics fans compared to a kangaroo hop. The performance came days after Gunn said she was now just dancing “in my living room.”

“I was going to keep competing, for sure, but that seems a really difficult thing for me to do now—to approach a battle,” Gunn told 2DayFM, a Sydney radio station, on Wednesday. “I still dance and break, but I do it in my living room with my partner.”

“The level of scrutiny that’s going to be there, and people will be filming it, and it will go online, and it’s just not going to mean the same thing; it’s not going to be the same experience because of everything that’s at stake,” she added.

However, Gunn’s recent performance has left fans wondering if she has changed her mind about retirement. Gunn reposted a video from one audience member who wrote that the Olympian “is not retiring.”
